An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the construction of a four-storey office block, along with surface car parking and landscaping at Weavers Court, Belfast. An archaeological evaluation for Phase 1 of the site was undertaken under licence AE/16/178.
The evaluation for Phase 2 consisted of the excavation of two test trenches out of the planned four trenches. Two trenches could not be excavated due to the presence of trees within the area for testing and the existing access to an underground car park.
IN both trenches, two layers of tarmac were removed which overlay a layer of hardcore with an approximate depth of 0.4m. This in turn directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil which was an orange plastic clay. A single modern stone-filled drain was identified extending across the trench.
No archaeological features or deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
