Monitoring of groundworks associated with health and safety works within a portion of the Avoca Mining complex at Tigroney West, County Wicklow was carried out which included metal detection under licence 16R0119. The works took place on an intermittent basis between June and December 2016. Whilst the general landscaping work was recorded, specific attention was given to works associated with mining features that survive within the site. These included works to the Ore Bins and crib walling; the 850 Adit, the Branch Incline Deep Adit; the Flat Rod Tunnel and a timber platform in the northern part of the site. These elements and any changes to them have been documented. In addition, previously unrecorded features were recorded, such as a tunnel possibly associated with the Flat Rod Tunnel and a section of in-situ railway track at the entrance to the 850 Adit.
