Roperstown 1 was identified as a result of archaeological monitoring of ground works during the construction stage of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy PPP Scheme. Monitoring was carried out in 18 previously untested areas under Excavation Registration Number E004646 and Ministerial Direction A054.
Roperstown 1 comprised two burnt mounds, two possible troughs and some small spreads of burnt material. The burnt mound on the south-eastern edge of site extended beyond the Lands Made Available, and where it extended beyond the site it was preserved in situ by covering with terram and backfilling. No artefacts were recovered during the excavation at Roperstown 1.
