Testing was carried out to investigate the potential of a circular cropmark identified in a Topsoil Storage Area (TSA 10) contiguous with the lands acquired by Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for construction of the M11 Gorey to Enniscorthy PPP Project (N80 Link Road) by Wexford County Council. The site is located in the townland of Ballynahallin (ITM 698807, 643227). Test trenching was undertaken on 24 November 2016 under Ministerial Direction No. A054. It followed on from an archaeological strategy document, and a detailed desktop assessment. A circular cropmark was identified in an aerial photograph (Google Earth 2011) within the north-west corner of TSA 10 in the preparation of the desktop assessment. The footprint of the anomaly was targeted by two perpendicular test trenches, each measuring 40m in length. No features or finds of archaeological potential were present. Testing confirmed the non-archaeological nature of the cropmark. No further mitigation was recommended prior to the proposed use of this site, TSA 10, as a topsoil storage area.
