Test excavations were carried out at Home Farm, Mothel, Co. Waterford, in the footprint of a proposed new farm building. Drains survived under the old farmyard, but the surface of the yard had been removed during landscaping for new buildings in the late 20th century.

The proposed development is 100m from the surviving fragment of Mothel Abbey, but no medieval features were encountered, and no indications of early settlement (charcoal and burnt soil) were found.
