Test trenching was undertaken at the site of a proposed new building within the north-east corner of the grounds of Dungarvan Community Hospital, approx. 500m to the west of the medieval core of Dungarvan town. The development area formerly comprised a green field site outside the boundary of a 19th-century workhouse. The area has been extensively developed in the past decade when modern hospital buildings, an ambulance bay, access road and car park were constructed. Test trenching in the available areas of the site confirmed that ground levels were reduced down into natural subsoil during modern construction works. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
