Planning permission has been granted for a proposed sand and gravel quarry comprising sand and gravel extraction with on-site dry screening and new vehicular access to Magheraglass Road, Cookstown, Co Tyrone upon the condition that an archaeological programme of works is implemented in accordance with Planning Policy Guidelines PPS6 BH4 with particular reference to the site being located in an archaeological landscape with a number of recorded archaeological sites and monuments, including two monuments in State Care (TYR038:001 & TYR029:022).

Pre-development test trenching was carried out at the site as a means of providing for the identification of any potential archaeological remains which may survive within the site boundaries. Test trenching failed to identify any sub-surface archaeological remains; therefore it is recommended that the development be allowed to proceed with no further archaeological requirement.
