An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a 6-turbine wind farm at Altamuskin, Sixmilecross, Omagh, Co. Tyrone. A previous evaluation consisting of the monitoring of groundworks was carried out under licence AE/13/166.
Monitoring of all ground penetrating works took place for the proposed development. Ground reduction works were conducted using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket to the levels of naturally occurring subsoil or archaeological strata, whichever was highest. The works consisted of the construction of a contractor’s compound, access roads and turbines 1–6 and their hardstand.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the monitoring.
