Testing was carried out within the site of a proposed nursing home at Borrisland South, Borrisloleigh, County Tipperary as part of a Request for Further Information (Planning Ref. 16600240). A geophysical survey was carried out by JML Surveys for IAC Ltd under licence 16R0103. There are a number of recorded archaeological and built heritage sites located within the vicinity of the proposed development. The closest, a ringfort (TN034-050), is situated within the convent gardens to the immediate south of the existing entrance. The site is now overgrown, although portions of a well-defined enclosing ditch are still evident within the garden. A desktop assessment was carried out by Faith Bailey of IAC Ltd as part of the planning application, the results of which noted that the site had been subject to disturbance.

The geophysical survey of the site was carried out in July 2016 under licence 16R0103. This was unsuccessful due to large magnetic disturbance throughout the development area. This interpretation was confirmed by the test trenching, which revealed up to 1m of modern dumped/fill material across the site. The test trenching did not identify any archaeological remains on the site and it is clear the site has been subject to a large amount of disturbance. No impacts upon the archaeological resource are anticipated as part of the Nursing Home development.
