Stage (iii) archaeological excavation was carried out at Castlebaldwin 3 in advance of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development, Co. Sligo. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing and was assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services (Registration Number E4627).
The pit had an oval cut with some oxidisation evident along the base and sides of the feature. The primary fill consisted mainly of charcoal chunks with occasional silty sand and medium sized stone. The upper fill consisted of mid yellow-brown sticky clay with occasional charcoal flecks.
