Stage (iii) archaeological excavation was carried out at Tawnagh 2 in advance of the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Development, Co. Sligo. The site was discovered during Stage (i) archaeological testing and was assessed during Stage (ii) Pre-Excavation Services (Registration Number E4627).

The excavation at Tawnagh 2 recorded the remains of one possible charcoal-production pit that may have been reused as an area of lithic production.

This pit produced one hundred lithics, mostly debitage with some flakes, scrapers, a bore and chunks of material also present. These artefacts were of chert, flint, quartz and rhyolite. A further four lithics were recovered from the topsoil, three of debitage and one scraper.
