Monitoring/testing was required as part of planning conditions for a residential development to the east of the Top Road in Strandhill. The proposed development site comprises an area measuring 1.08ha. The plan envisages the construction of 34 residential units, a childcare facility, and staff accommodation. Provision for 65 carparking spaces, an open public area measuring 2123m² and other associated site works complete the development.
A total of 32 test trenches were excavated across the footprint of this development. Excavation did not reveal any evidence for archaeological finds, features or deposits. A further programme of intermittent monitoring was carried out during the course of topsoil stripping across the entire site and no evidence for any archaeological material was uncovered.
