Monitoring was required as part of planning regulations (Part 8) associated with an enhancement project of Emmett Square under the Birr Public Realm Plan. The proposed groundworks have undergone three stages of consultation with sketch designs on display, revisions due to submissions received and a series of public meetings.
Six phases of groundworks works have been scheduled for the project, with the first phase beginning in May 2015.
No features of archaeological potential have been identified to date (April 2016). An updated summary will be submitted upon completion of works.
