Proposed development located in the village of Clontibret consists of a car park to be located in a green field site located c.30-60m to the north of northern boundary wall for St Colman's Church and Graveyard, MO014-019001 & MO014-019002.
Archaeological monitoring was also required during demolition of an adjacent single-storey dwelling. No evidence for any archaeological material was encountered during monitoring across the footprint of this site.
Testing was carried out across the footprint of the proposed car park area. Five linear test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the proposed development. Trenches 1-3 were located parallel to the north-east boundary wall adjacent to the present-day church. Trenches were orientated north-west/south-east and measured 35m in length x 1.2m in width. Trenches 4 and 5 were located along the north-western edge of the site and were parallel with the road to the immediate north-west of the site. Trenches 4 and 5 measured 25m in length x 1.5m in width.
All topsoil stripping was carried out using a toothless grading bucket and was excavated to subsoil. No evidence for any archaeological material was encountered during the excavation of trenches across the footprint of this site.
