Monitoring was undertaken at the site of the proposed development adjacent to Cloncaw Chapel, Cloncaw, Co. Monaghan on 4 and 5 April 2016, commissioned by of Fr Hubert Martin. Monitoring was required as part of the planning condition applied by Monaghan County Council (P671/15).

The proposed development involves an extension to the existing carpark and a pathway to the new graveyard. The site is located within the curtilage of St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, a freestanding gable-fronted barn-type church which is a protected structure.

Monitoring of the removal of the existing material revealed no archaeological features. No further archaeological works are recommended in association with this development.
