A geophysical survey was carried out by Jon Stirland of Archaeological Consultancy Services Unit (ACSU) on 16 December 2016 under detection licence 16R0225. Two 10 x 10m grids were surveyed within the footprint of the proposed extension and associated groundworks. The survey was carried out using a Bartington GRAD 601-2 dual sensor fluxgate gradiometer system. The survey identified a number of possible anomalies that may have represented possible archaeological/ferrous responses and a number of anomalies that clearly suggested ferrous modern disturbance.

These features/anomalies were examined during test trenching of the site of the proposed development carried out by Deirdre Murphy on 17 December 2016, and were all found to be modern domestic and agricultural metal objects located within the topsoil. Testing consisted of the excavation of four test trenches located within the footprint of the proposed development; the excavation of these trenches identified no features or deposits of an archaeological nature.

This assessment concludes that the site of the proposed extension to the dwelling and its associated groundworks contains no features or deposits of an archaeological nature.
