Monitoring was carried out at Lough Bane, Ballinlough, Co. Meath on behalf of Balfour Beatty Ireland. The project involved an upgrade to the Water Treatment Facility on the northern shore of Lough Bane for treated water to supply Kells and Oldcastle. In and around the lake are a number of archaeological monuments including the ruins of a castle, two ringforts and a designed landscape feature.
All excavation works were undertaken by a mechanical excavator with a grading bucket. The works consisted of excavation of an access track through agricultural land and excavation within the existing water treatment plant. Excavation of the track was through undisturbed soil and the remainder of the excavation was in disturbed soil. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
