An area that included the two sites previously identified during testing in 2015 as Drumaleheen 1 & 2 was stripped of topsoil in December 2016. A trench/ditch of a possible ring ditch or barrow was exposed. It measured a maximum of 1.2m in width and enclosed an area 9m in diameter. A number of possible post-holes/pits were exposed around the circular feature. A linear ditch running north-south through the site continued outside the area of excavation. It measured 1.5m in width. A radiocarbon date of 1694–1526 BC was returned from a charcoal sample from this site. Unfavourable weather conditions left the site quite waterlogged and vulnerable and excavations were suspended until the weather and site conditions improved. Excavation will continue at this site in 2017.
