The site at Cloondeash 3 consisted of the remains of burnt mound (F03), a linear feature (F05), a pit (F08) and a modern animal burial that were exposed at a depth of 0.36m beneath the sod and topsoil. The burnt mound measured 10.8m by 11.5m with a depth of 0.62m and consisted of heat-shattered stone and charcoal-rich silty peat. The linear feature, which may have been a furrow or part of a field drainage system, was irregular in shape and extended into the baulk beyond the southern limit of the site. The feature was 0.42m wide and had a depth of 0.08m. The pit located on the east side of the burnt mound was sub-oval in plan and measured 0.58m by 0.66m with a depth of 0.06-0.13m.
A total of 6 soil and environmental samples were taken; 4 from the burnt mound, 1 sample each from the both the linear feature and the pit. Radiocarbon analysis of any charcoal present should provide a date range for the use of this site. No finds were recovered from the archaeological features.
