A large burnt stone spread (F3) was identified at Attireesh 1. It measured 15m in length east-west, by 14m in width by 0.75m in depth and sloped southwards from the edge of a natural hill towards a stream along the southern boundary of the site. A large sub-circular trough was exposed below the spread on the slope of the hill. Two further timber troughs were exposed at the base of the hill below the interface of the peat and natural clay/gravels, one of which had a flagstone base. Other natural timbers were prevalent in the surrounding peat. Post-excavation analysis is ongoing for this site and it is hoped to obtain dating evidence from radiocarbon analysis of charcoal samples recovered.
