One disturbed burnt mound (F003) was identified below the sod and topsoil (F001) at a depth of 0.22m. It measured 3.0m in length, 1.8m in width and 0.21m in thickness and had been cut by a north-east/south-west-running post-medieval cultivation furrow (F006). It consisted of a compact layer of mid – dark brown peaty clay containing angular and heat-shattered stone and lay above a rough oval shaped trough (F005) which measured 2.7m in length, 1.6m in width and 0.33m in depth and had been filled with a black peaty clay (F004) containing angular and heat-shattered stone. The burnt mound was identified at the edge of a natural water channel (F007) where water pooled naturally in a slight depression at the base of the hill.
