The site is located within the zone of archaeological potential associated with Ardee, LH017-101. Although there are no known archaeological sites within the environs of the development, the rear ground may contain evidence for burgage plots. In order to avoid any potential conflicts between archaeology and the construction process, it was proposed that a phase of archaeological testing would take place.
Two test trenches were opened in February 2016. The first was excavated along the centre spine of the development and the second running across the width of the proposal. Testing was restricted to the base of formation levels.
Results revealed that all development will take place within levels either previously disturbed or within agricultural soils. The only area where potentially significant disturbance could occur was in the area of the soak-away, however, nothing of significance was noted here.
