Test trenching in advance of a residential development revealed that archaeological remains survive in several locations on the proposed development site. A cluster of features at the west are almost certainly Bronze Age in date and probably represent settlement, although a funerary function cannot be ruled out at this stage. Another cluster of features at the north-east are not dated but could also represent prehistoric settlement on this south-facing hillside overlooking the River Groody. Occasional pits and areas of burning elsewhere across the site also remain undated and could relate to the prehistoric occupation or other, later, activity. A burnt stone mound was located at the south-west in low-lying wet ground. Frequent evidence of agricultural activity in the form of field boundary ditches and furrows was also recorded but this later use of the land does not appear to have caused much damage to the earlier features. Full excavation is recommended.
