Archaeological assessment to include pre-development testing was requested for a proposed development located at the northern edge of the IDA Business & Technology Park, Keenaghan, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. The site comprises an area measuring 3.15ha to be used for an extension to the north-east side of the Vistamed Ltd. building, to provide c. 3,800sq.m. of industrial floor space and ancillary office space.
12 linear test trenches were excavated across the footprint of the development. Test Trenches 1-3, 5-8 and 12 all revealed evidence of a thick layer of fill spread mainly across a considerable portion of the southern end of the site; this layer ranges from 0.5-0.8m in depth. Archaeological testing across the footprint of the development has not yielded any evidence for archaeological finds or features across the site.
