The development site lies within the environs of a historic nucleated settlement at Kilmacar (KK101-038). The site of a castle (KK010-038003) lies approximately 43m east of the development. A church (KK010-038001) and graveyard (KK010-038002) are situated approximately 98m and 86m, respectively, further east of the development. A further six recorded monuments are located within a 200m radius of the proposed development.

Monitoring was carried out to conduct a watching brief of all ground disturbance works at the development site. A layer of mid-brown topsoil approx. 0.2m deep covered the development area. This overlay a mid-brown sandy clay subsoil. No features or materials of archaeological significance were uncovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping.
