Investigation was undertaken in advance of development which comprised the construction of a one and a half storey dwelling house, domestic garage, entrance, foul effluent treatment system, percolation area and all associated site works.  13 trenches were planned and investigated.

Stratigraphy consisted of a subsoil comprised a mid reddish-brown sandy silt, with occasional small pockets of pale grey-brown sand and small sub-rounded stones.  The alignment of all trenches was east-west.

The proposed development was situated in the immediate environs of ringfort KK008-063, which lies 39m to the north. The surface expression of an extensive relict field system (KK008-0159) is located on the northern side of the proposed development site, at a minimum distance of 173m. A further 11 recorded monuments are located within a 500m radius of the proposed development area, including the particularly impressive trivallate ringfort (KK008-060001) at Rathlogan.

Extensive test excavation across the proposed development site failed to identify any features or materials of archaeological significance.
