Monitoring for the extension of an Arkil quarry was carried out on the southern slope of Boston Hill, Drinnanstown South between 18 and 22 July 2016. The area comprised a strip in a broad arable field measuring 217m north-north-west/south-south-east by 94m wide. The works were carried out by a 22-tonne excavator with a flat ditching bucket. The topsoil was a light brown, silty clay with a depth of 0.3-0.35m overlaying a compact orange-grey natural clay and bedrock with occasional inclusions of roots and decayed stone. There was no archaeology found.
