Testing was undertaken as part preparation of an Archaeological Impact Assessment with respect to the development of a further phase of dwellings (Temple Wood) at Carton Demesne. The development area is located in the north-eastern of the overall estate and is surrounded to the immediate north, south and west by golf course lands, and separated by other existing residential plots by an undeveloped grassed area. A stone access road has been constructed within the development area, linked to a fully constructed main access spine road through the overall development area. The greater area of the development is formed by a wooded area which has been subjected to some limited tree felling. In general, the surface of the ground slopes down gently from north to south and west to east and there are two small raised ground/hillock areas in the south-west and southern areas. There are no previously recorded monuments located within, or in the immediate environs of, the site. However, the remains of a previously unrecorded cemetery was uncovered in 2015, c. 240m to the east of the easternmost boundary to the development area.

The testing programme comprised the machine excavation of a total of 43 test trenches, concentrated on the individual house locations and associated driveways, with the locations of existing trees taken into consideration. Nothing of archaeological interest/potential was uncovered and it was suggested that no further archaeological interventions were required.
