A pre-planning test excavation was undertaken in lands adjacent to an operational quarry in Doocarrig Beg townland, 3km south-east of Barraduff village. The quarry is located in an open expanse of bogland on the northern slope of the Derrynasaggart mountain range. The extension is for approximately 11ha of agricultural land to the south, east and west of the existing quarry face. A total of 11 test trenches were placed in the lands proposed for quarrying and these were excavated to a level slightly below the natural boulder clay. No feature or finds of archaeological merit were uncovered.
