Monitoring of the western perimeter of the proposed school site at Cahergal took place on 30 August 2016 in dry and bright conditions. Topsoil stripping was carried out by a 30-tonne backhoe excavator. Monitoring was recommended in this area due to its proximity to the ‘zone of archaeological potential’ of GA044-024. Groundworks exposed a mid-brown silty clay overlying natural clay, there was no evidence of the fosse for the ringfort extending into the proposal site. There was no archaeology found.
