Monitoring of the initial ground disturbance works on the site of the new Primary Care Centre for Tuam took place from 8 June – 11 July 2016. Monitoring was requested as a condition of planning (Galway County Council 13/1053 condition No.6). Monitoring did not reveal any features of archaeological significance. Almost the entire site has been stripped of soils down to natural subsoil and construction on the development is well advanced. The remaining area, currently located under the spoil heap, will not be disturbed.
A number of modern 20th/21st-century features were observed and these included a rubble stone trackway, a machine-dug rubbish pit and the remains of a dog.
