An archaeological evaluation was carried out at the site of proposed residential dwelling at lands 60m north of 102 Lettermoney Road, Co Fermanagh. The evaluation was carried out in response to a request for more information from DOE: Historic Environment Division under Planning Policy PPS6 BH3. A desk-based study and site visit has confirmed that the proposed development is located near to an enclosure identified from aerial photography, FER192:051, of possible early medieval origin and situated c.20m to the north.
An archaeological evaluation in the form of the excavation of 3 test trenches set 10m apart within the footprint of the proposed development was carried out over a period of 1 day. No archaeological features or deposits were noted within either of the test trenches excavated and therefore it is recommended that the development be allowed to proceed with no further archaeological requirement.
