An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a residential development at lands situated adjacent to and north-east of Crannog Way, south-east of Carran Business Park and north-west of the DVA test centre, Enniskillen.
A total of 15 test trenches were excavated using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket to the level of naturally occurring subsoil. In all trenches, a single fill was removed which consisted of dark brown sandy clay and had a maximum depth of 0.6m. This directly overlay naturally occurring subsoil which consisted of bands of compact light yellowish-brown clay interspersed with very infrequent inclusions of degraded stone. There was the occasional modern agricultural furrow present.
No archaeological deposits were identified during the course of the evaluation.
