Monitoring of ground works was carried out over two days in September 2016. Monitoring revealed the dressed and cut stone at the base of the canal bridge in the southeast of the site, below present ground level. The remains of an old canal wall, which is partially demolished, was evident extending at least 4.5m to the southeast from the extreme south-east corner of the original canal bridge, most likely continuing beyond the current project footprint. Monitoring of cabling and ducting excavations across the footprint of the site led to the continued identification of the canal wall throughout the extent of the development site.
The base of the currently standing canal bridge was revealed below present ground level and the discovery of an old cannel wall was noted, none of which hold archaeological significance.
