A total of 2 test trenches were excavated within the site of the proposed development. Both trenches contained evidence of two Victorian houses that previously occupied the site. These terrace houses are clearly shown on the first edition 6 inch OS map (c. 1836). The lower part of the foundations of these houses consisted of randomly coursed stone and reused red brick bonded by lime mortar and rubble in-fill. During the excavation of the test trenches a small number of finds were recovered that represent 17th- and 18th-century domestic activity. No other archaeological features or deposits were identified.
