The original method statement proposed to excavate 2 test trenches within the footprint of the development. However on the excavation of the first trench it was found that the entire site to the rear of Nos 86–88 Leeson Street Lower had been subject to ground reduction, associated with the existing office block and its underground carpark. Only the original façade of the Georgian buildings survive; to the rear of the façade the whole site has been subject to ground reduction to a level of 2.3m below the current ground level. Within Trench 1 only the tarmac surface of the carpark and underlying hard core was recorded, which overlay natural boulder clay. No archaeological features or deposits were recorded.
