Full time monitoring took place in May 2016 on the Lords Walk within the Phoenix Park, Dublin (DU018-007001). The trench for a gas pipeline was excavated for approximately 400m, the trench was 0.4m in width and up to 1.1m in depth.

Two stone-built culverts of historic interest were uncovered in the centre of the trench. These were identical in structure (stone lined with a slate roof) and were orientated north-west/south-east. Culvert 1 (coordinates 712730 735011) was at a depth of 0.9m from the surface while Culvert 2 was at a depth of 0.6m (Culvert 2 – 712728 735004). A section was excavated through both culverts to facilitate excavation of the trench. Elsewhere the stratigraphy along the road was consistent; 0–0.1m topsoil, 0.1–0.3m mixed grey/brown clay with small stone and along the base a yellow/brown sandy subsoil with occasional stones.
