At the request of IPut monitoring was undertaken of the demolition and rebuild of the 1970s Molesworth building on the corner of Molesworth Street, South Fredrick Street and Setanta Place, Dublin 2. The building contains a double basement that extend 6m below ground level. The proposed six-storey office building will contain three below-ground levels that will extend 10m below ground level and a secant pile wall around the perimeter of the site which will extend deeper than this.
Only one feature was identified during monitoring at the rear of No. 15 Molesworth Street and it was post-medieval in nature - this comprised of some mortared red bricks and it was not not spread over a large area. The area to be redeveloped at No. 10 Molesworth Street was monitored but no archaeological features were identified. The natural bedrock layers were reached and excavations extended below these layers.
