Testing was carried out at the site of a proposed car retail development at Parlickstown, Mulhuddart, Co. Dublin as part of a Request for Further Information (RFI) issued by Fingal County Council (Planning Ref.: FW15A/0156). The RFI specified that the site should be subject to archaeological assessment in the form of geophysical survey and archaeological testing as it is thought to contain a recorded enclosure identified through aerial photographic analysis - DU013-030. However, since the identification of that monument, the site has been extensively disturbed. Site inspection indicated the area had been severely disturbed in recent years with all buildings, trees and overburden cleared. Joanna Leigh, a geophysicist, confirmed that the site was not suitable for survey.
A total of ten trenches, measuring 620 linear metres, were excavated across the 0.8ha site on 27 May 2016. No evidence for the recorded enclosure DU013-030 or any finds or features of archaeological potential were identified at this time. Testing indicated heavy modern disturbance, particularly in the southern half of the site where the rubble remains of a recently demolished 20th-century structure were recorded.
