Following a full archaeological, architectural and GPR survey area around the Casino, which identified some remains of the earlier Donnycarney House and demesne, a metal detector survey was conducted of the largest (no. 8) of the external cellars off the Casino to determine if any remains of the cartridges or fragments of bullets fired by the IRA from Thompson submachine guns in 1921 survived. No significant hits were recorded.
