An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a residential development within the grounds of 644 Saintfield Road, Carryduff.
The evaluation consisted of the excavation of 6 test trenches across the site using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. The evaluation identified the extent of the ditch surrounding rath DOW 09:29 which forms part of the southern site boundary. This was identified within Trenches 4-6 and extends into the site to a maximum distance of 4.15m. Under the proposed layout of the development, this feature will be located within what would be the back garden of one property and an area of communal green space. The feature has been preserved in situ.
