A remedial archaeological programme was undertaken on the site between 29 February and 11 March 2016. This included a watching brief during the removal of the gravel temporary road and hardstand area, the reinstatement of the topsoil and a walkover and metal detection survey of the reinstated topsoil. A total of six prehistoric flint artefacts were recovered from the topsoil. No archaeological features were identified on the site, though a wall foundation and cobbled surfaces dating to the 18th century were identified within the hardstand area. No evidence of the existence of Con O’Neill’s castle (tower-house) was identified during the archaeological programme.
