A further extension of Licence 13E145 was granted in December 2016 to undertake works associated with the erection of a fence around the church to protect it from cattle. It was planned to excavate a total of five test pits on the alignment of the proposed fence along the outside of the no-longer extant sections of the south and west walls. Much of the area on the exterior of the south wall was saturated and was not viable for archaeological excavation. Consequently, three test pits were excavated on the exterior of the location of the former western gable wall of the church. One of the pits, Pit 3 produced evidence for human bone.
