A pre-planning test excavation was undertaken in advance of the construction of an extension to a dwelling house on the western outskirts of Bantry. The house is located 24m to the south of Reenadisert Castle (CO105-2001) which is situated on elevated ground overlooking the existing farmyard and dwelling house. In all, four trenches were placed across the footprint of the proposed extension and no features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered. A percolation pit to the immediate south of the dwelling house was excavated to a depth of over 2m and the soil profile was made up of brown podzolic clays. No features of archaeological significance were revealed.
