Testing was undertaken at a single house site in Ballylegan, Glanworth, Co. Cork to comply with a request for further information from Cork County Council, planning ref. 15/04516. The testing was undertaken in a green field site. Linda Lynch (licence 14E0180) undertook an assessment including testing at the site in June 2014. The assessment was carried out under the pre-planning recommendations of Cork County Council archaeologist Mary Sleeman due to the location of the site within 0.5km of a high concentration of Bronze Age and Early Christian monuments. Five test trenches were spread across the entire area of the site as the layout of the house had not been finalised. A small number of features, a pit, a charcoal-rich deposit and two stake-holes were recorded in three of the trenches. Lynch suggested that a 20m buffer zone around these features could be established and the layout of the proposed development could then be finalised. This was done and the design of the house was finalised.

It was agreed with CCC that a further four test trenches would be excavated on the footprint of the area of the garage and percolation as these areas had not been tested in 2014. No archaeological features, stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded in the four new test trenches.
