Test trenching took place along the route of the proposed N55 Realignment Scheme, Co. Cavan on behalf of Cavan County Council, between 8 and 19 August 2016 under licence numbers 16E0169 & 16E170. The road scheme consists of the realignment of the N55 road between the townlands of Garrymore and Pottahee and Ballytrust and Corduff. The realignment scheme consists of 2 phases:
Phase 1: Garrymore to Pottahee is an approximately 1.2km long realignment section of the N55 south of Ballinagh in the townland of Garrymore and Pottahee, and
Phase 2: Licence Number (16E0169) Ballytrust, Oghill and Corduff this section is an approximately 1.99km long realignment section of the N55 south of Ballinagh in the townlands of Ballytrust, Oghill and Corduff (to tie in with the previous 2012 N55 Corduff realignment Scheme).

The Phase 1 test trenching consisted of nine areas totalling 3,845 linear metres × 1.8m wide. Two areas contained archaeological features: Garrymore 3: ITM: 638115, 797197 which was a truncated burnt mound measuring 2m diameter × 0.15m high, a possible trough measuring 1.45m × 0.64m, and two possible outlying pits. A number of field drains were also recorded at the site.
Garrymore 2: ITM: 638279, 797253 which was a truncated burnt mound measuring 11m diameter × 0.15m high, a possible trough, measuring 3.9m × 2m. A number of field drains were also recorded at the site.

The area of the Garrymore Ringfort CV031-038 is subject to a separate licence, 16E0168.
