Monitoring of ground works carried out as part of Larne Public Realm improvement works took place during May and June 2016. Monitoring was confined to those areas of deep excavation and included 24 lighting column pits and 3 tree pits. The majority of monitored pits were found to have been excavated through modern infill while others were through natural boulder clay subsoil. One lighting column located along Main Street was excavated through what appeared to be raised beach material with the recovery of a number of pieces of struck flint.
