An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the construction of a single wind turbine on lands 430m north-east of 60, Crosskennan Road, Antrim. While no known archaeological sites are located within the path of the access tracks or turbine base, one known monument, ANT 044:045 is located adjacent to the development and is identified as an Early Medieval rath.
Monitoring of all ground penetrating works was conducted for the proposed development. Ground reduction works were conducted using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket to the levels of naturally occurring subsoil or archaeological strata, whichever was highest.
The topsoil consisted of a mid brown silty clay and was an average depth of 0.3m. It overlay the naturally occurring subsoil which consisted of a predominately light brown slightly sandy stony clay.
No archaeological deposits were identified during monitoring.
