The 18th-century harbour is scheduled for protection under the Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (NI) Order 1995. The harbour required urgent repair to prevent further deterioration of the foundations and steps. Scheduled Monument consent was granted by the Historic Environment Division and all works were conducted under archaeological supervision. All stonework was labelled and photographed prior to dismantling, this allowed for an accurate reconstruction of the harbour wall and steps. Stone masons using approved hand tools undertook the reconstruction of the harbour wall. No previously unrecorded archaeological objects or features were noted during the course of the works.
