Assessment in advance of geotechnical testing for the line of a new sewer in New Ross identified the need for archaeological monitoring due to the proposed sewer being located in the vicinity of a battle associated with the 1798 Rebellion. Licences for monitoring and metal-detecting were issued to the author however unfortunately the geotechnical test pits went ahead without the required archaeological work being undertaken.
